This very fine jewelry box has been hand crafted by skilled box maker, Doug Macdonald of Victoria B.C.
Doug writes; "I have recently been exploring the ancient art of marquetry, which is the inlaying of multiple veneers to create images and patterns. With this box I wanted to create a three-dimensional effect in the rose petals, which is done by minor charring of the wood to imply shadows. The box itself is constructed of cherry wood".
"All is finished with a wiping polyurethane varnish for a warm protective finish. The box is lined with (removable) black felt".
The box has cherry wood sides with a Makore wood hinged lid. The lid has a lovely marquetry rose on it.
Size: Diameter 9 inches by Height 3 1/2 inches and Depth 5 inches.
Marquetry: inlaid work made from small pieces of variously colored wood or other materials, used chiefly for the decoration of furniture.
