Wendy established her career in Calgary.
She loves the integrity and richness of using pottery in her life and enjoyed making functional pottery. She was featured in galleries in Calgary and major Canadian craft shows.
Later in her journey she founded Mystic Fire Raku and developed a market for this work selling across Canada and into the USA.
With her husband she embarked on an offshore sailing adventure and spent the last 7 years sailing to many exotic places around the world.
Returning to a land-based life on Salt Spring Island where the call of clay inspired by the amazing visions from her sailing lifestyle has led to the return to her pottery roots.
Her new work uses porcelain clay which is formulated to become translucent after firing.
All of her work is thrown on the pottery wheel. It is then trimmed and bisque fired. She decorates it with a combination of oxides, underglazes and slips and cover it with a clear glaze and fire it to maturity.
Some of her processes require several firings incorporating decals and gold lusters. All of which are both permanent and food safe.
The translucency allows light to shine through with wonderful results. It is akin to using china as opposed to stoneware and can be enjoyed for many years.
