Karen Findlay - I was born and raised in Esquimalt, but moved to the Okanagan in 1970 with my teacher husband and raised two boys. I was an Educational Assistant for 25 years and have published several workbooks for students with additional assistance in reading and writing. After retirement, we moved back to Esquimalt in 2014 to be closer to family.

I’ve always been busy with my hands, trying various arts and crafts, especially with textiles. I was taught to knit, crochet, spin and weave and recently was introduced to needle felting. I fell in love!

Needle felted figures are made using raw, carded fleece, sometimes built over an aluminum armature. Shapes are wrapped, folded, rolled and felted using very sharp barbed needles. These barbs make the fibres stick together and hold the shape.

I am continuing to learn and perfect the techniques while creating a variety of pieces
