Cockle Shell Wood Box
A Haida Gwaii special from woodturner Rick Barton. These lovely rustic boxes are made from locally found Red Cedar with huge Cockle Shell lids. The lid swivels to expose a very useful deep interior for your jewellery or keepsakes.
The Cockle Shell is native to the waters around Haida Gwaii in Northern B.C. In Haida legend, Raven found an extraordinary cockle shell there with little humans protruding from it. Raven coaxed the humans to emerge and they became the first Haida people.
As each piece is hand made the actual item may not be exactly as shown in the photo.
