I started my professional life as a construction electrician. I was living in Peace River in northern Alberta at the time, so I took my first year electrical at SAIT in Calgary, AB.
In 1981 on a flip of a coin, I moved up to Whitehorse, Yukon for the summer, I enjoyed it so much that I decided to make it my home. I took my second year electrical at Selkirk College in Nelson, B.C. and 3 & 4th years at Camosun College here in Victoria, which started my love affair with Victoria & Vancouver Island! I worked as an electrician for 15 years, 5 of which I was a contractor with my own electrical business.
During this time I dabbled with making gold nugget jewellery at a friend's jewellery store, and loved doing it. So then in 1994 when I moved to Melbourne, Australia I decided to pursue my creative passion and become a jeweller. I completed a diploma in Jewellery Design & Metalsmithing from Box Hill College in Melbourne, and never looked back! My work won awards from the college and was shown in the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne.
I moved back to Whitehorse, Yukon in 1997 and opened a retail and wholesale business which I called Motherlode Jewellery. I have been operating a seasonal tourist store in Carcross, Yukon since 2001. Because of my electrical influence, most of my pieces are fashioned from sterling silver and gold wire in which I incorporate natural gold nuggets, precious & semi-precious beads and stones.
I have lived in the Yukon since 1981, but I've had enough of the long, cold winters, so now I am spending the winters in Sidney, B.C
