 Artist Biography

Stephanie Bergman is a new ceramic artist from the Cowichan Valley, BC.  She has been inspired by the wildlife around her since her childhood, when sailing the Gulf Islands with her family and poking around in tide pools and under docks.  Steph was taught by her mother, watercolour artist Irmela Topf, to see precision in form and subtleties in colour.  She dabbled in clay in her youth while attaining degrees in biology and then physiotherapy from the University of BC.  Steph put art aside while working in healthcare and raising a daughter on Vancouver Island for the past 22 years.  In 2019, she rekindled her love of working in clay, and catalyzed by the pandemic in 2020, started a second career as a ceramic artist. She creates relief keepsakes that reflect the essence of the local wilderness and it’s creatures.
